Objectives of Courses: This course is designed to assist students in gaining the competence they need to be successful academically by giving them direct instruction and practice using a variety of curriculums.

Description of Course:

This course concentrates on building basic skills in reading and writing for those who have not been successful in these areas previously and need additional instruction and practice.

Major Units of Study:

  • Writing –fluency, word choice, conventions, voice
  • Reading – comprehension, fluency, decoding, vocabulary

iLit.com    Corrective Reading, by SRA, REWARDS,  Common Core aligned Interactive Notebooks,  Tolt Writing Model, etc.

Grade Level Novels

6th Grade – The Legend of Spirit Bear

Grading Policy:

          Students will receive an A, B, C, D or grade based on completion and accuracy of classroom assignments and assessments, participation in class in discussions and social skills activities.

 

100%-90% = A, 89%-78% = B, 77%-66% = C, 65%-57% = D, 56%-0% = F

Students will receive minimal homework in this class. Students will have plenty of time to complete assignments in class.

 

Attendance:

Regular attendance -“At Tolt, we understand that attendance affects what we learn in our classes.  We know it is essential to attend school regularly and to be on time to every class.  When it is necessary for you to miss school for a legitimate reason, a parent or guardian must excuse you by calling the Attendance Office at 425-844-4606 and stating the reason for your legitimate absence.”

Expectations will follow Tolt Middle School’s “Points of Pride” program.

  • Promptness

  • Politeness
  • Preparedness

 

Tardy policy in accordance with school guidelines:

  • 1 tardy – warning
  • 2-4th tardy – Lunch detention
  • 5-6 tardy – call home and 90 minute after school detention
  • 7 or more tardies – administrative action
